A long time ago when it was still Fruity Loops, I got FL because I didn’t know if I was going to commit much time or effort into making music so I didn’t want to spend much cash on it. I had the cash, but just didn’t want to use it. When Reason came out, I thought it would be too hard to use. There wasn’t a YouTube or a lot of details about how good Reason is (or isn’t).

Even though I still own the FL & haven’t used it in years, I can just go download the latest. But I think what I ended up hating about FL is its interface. It’s just not intuitive! Unless you knew a shit-ton about electronic music, it was very hard to figure out way back in 1998. Trying to figure out what a sequencer is, MIDI, and all of that & the PCs were slow…it was quick to hit a bottleneck. And back then, people didn’t tell you that you really needed a midi controller & midi controllers weren’t USB PC-friendly back then either.

Now it’s easy. The midi/keyboard controllers go right into the PC & Reason looks a hell of a lot easier to use & understand based on all of the YouTube tutorials I’ve watched. The way it is setup: sound/instrument design, recording/tracks, mixing all separated in distinct locations makes it much easier to get started. And also thanks to YouTube, there are ways to get your VSTs into Reason using a freeware software MIDI connector. Then you can just point to the MIDI Channels to control the VST. You don’t even have to rewire to a DAW. I was thinking I could use FL as the DAW if I buy Reason. However, I’m not really sure I want to use FL for that either. I was thinking more of using Reaper instead at only $60 & it works on PC & Mac & I want to have a DAW that works on both (FL only has crappy crossover support for Mac).

Hell, Reaper is probably cheaper than FL. If you’re poor, you can get Reaper for $60 & then just pick & choose the systems you want, like Native Instruments, Waves, or 3rd party developers, and all the free VSTs you can handle!!

Thank you for the video!! Would you be able to produce a video on ReWire? ReWire Reason 9 into FL Studio 12? I have seen other videos on ReWire for Reason, but there are a few things that are different in those videos (as the FL Studio is an older version in the videos), in comparison to FL Studio 12 ReWire. One thing that is different is the ReWire ‘Dialog Box,’ (the box that opens after you place ReWire on the channel rack)…it’s not the same as the Dialog Boxes in the videos…another thing that is different is the Midi Mapping…that is also different in the older videos, in comparison to the newest version of FL Studio 12. Even the pictures of the ReWire Dialog Box in the FL Studio 12 User Manual is different from the actual ReWire Dialog Box in the FL Studio 12 program. It’s very confusing to say the least.

Reason is just way superior, the sounds in Reason are way better. I used FL when it was frutyloops 3 then I bought Reason 1.0 and it blew me away.

What do you think of reason essentials? i went with that due to my background being fully analog hardware and i didnt need much more then some eq and mixing/mastering tools and minimal effects for dumping analog recordings and seasoning them or multitrack stuff for with more clarity
